Jonatan’s portfolio

Hi! I’m Jonatan. Maybe we’re acquainted already? Either way, I’m going to give you an overview of what I can contribute with, if you’d be interested in engaging me as a freelancer.

My specialty is sound design and implementation for video games. I have been a full-time employee in these fields for Grin (Bionic Commando series) and Media Molecule (LittleBigPlanet series), before becoming a freelancer. Have you played LittleBigPlanet 2? Do you know the cute Sackbots that you’re supposed to save throughout the game? I made all the sounds for those, plus many more. I’m also an expert at making things go boom in more violent games. Below is a five minute sound design reel focusing on the work I did for Grin in that genre:

I’m well versed in the biggest audio solutions for games: Fmod and Wwise. We used Fmod at Media Molecule and Wwise at Grin. Lots of people have other tools or solutions though, and if you need someone who can learn fast, do scripting and is technically savvy I’m the right person. To give a solid example, I took the AudioSource class from Unity and wrote my own class extending its functionality. If you know how to read C# you can take a look, it’s right here: extended audio class.

I have a degree both from the College of Music in Stockholm and from the Stockholm School of Economics. While music is not my main field anymore I’ve done my fair share of composing for games as well as music licensing. Below is another five minute reel, this time focusing on music production. Watching it is certainly optional if you don’t need music.

I love getting my hands dirty with raw sound creation and implementation. I can also help with recruitment, studio building and making the right investments both in people and tools. In fact, I did exactly that at Tarsier Studios. As they started production of Little Big Planet Vita I helped them recruit a sound designer and build their studio. One year later they were wrapping up the project, and called on me again to help them finish it. The game received excellent reviews, including for sound, even though the audio department had been non-existent just a year prior.

I think it is the combination of skills in interactive audio and business that makes me particularly suited for jobs that require great work ethics and self-sufficiency. It also makes me suitable for jobs that involve the development of an audio department. If this is the kind of person you are looking for to help you get audio for your game rolling, don’t hesitate to give me a call or send me an email. I have my own studio and company in Stockholm, but I’m also available for work on location or as a short-term employee if that suits you better.
